Tanzania Ruvuma RFA Wet Hulled (Single Estate)

The remote mountainous region of Ruvuma is located at the southernmost tip of Tanzania, bordering Mozambique to the south and Lake Nyasa and Malawi to the west. A 1,060-kilometre drive from Dar es Salaam on paved and unpaved roads takes roughly 14 hours by car. The district capital is Songea, around 50km east of AVIV estate.

Production at altitude and with fertile, alluvial, loamy soils, allows for a desired slow maturation of the beans.

ALLIANCE FOR WATER STEWARDSHIP

Established in 2014, the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) standard has globally-endorsed the definition of water stewardship that helps users to understand and improve the water use, while building trust and collaboration to address shared water challenges at landscape level. It provides a pathway to achieve five outcomes: good water governance, sustainable water balance, good water quality, healthy 'important water-related areas', and safe water & sanitation for all.

In 2015, Aviv has become the first agri-business becoming AWS-certified in the world and the only coffee carrying this recognition worldwide. To achieve such high standard, Aviv committed significant resources in building a large water reservoir to secure access to water for all in the catchment and putting necessary infrastructures to supply a minimum of 2L of drinking water/day per worker and proper access to sanitation. Moreover, direct engagement with local partnership helped develop collective actions protecting natural habitats, conserving water resources and securing water for all. Aviv’s water stewardship agenda directly benefits both Natural and Social Capitals by managing socially equitable, environmental sustainable and economically beneficial operations.
