About This Coffee

This is a washed microlot from 3 small farms near the village of El Carmen, San Lorenzo, in the Nariño region of southern Colombia.

THE PRODUCERS

This microlot is made up of coffee from 3 small farms: Fincas Florencia, La Esperanza and La Palma. These farms are between 2 and 5 hectares in size at altitudes ranging between 1,600 and 1,900masl and cultivate the varietals of Caturra, Colombia and Castillo.

THE PROCESS

This lot utilises a traditional washed process. Ripe cherries are pulped and dry-fermented for 25-36 hours depending on climatic conditions. The coffee is then thoroughly washed to remove any excess mucilage, which has broken down during the fermentation process. After washing the coffee is dried on a concrete patio in the sun for 5 days, after which it is transferred to a parabolic solar drier for a further 10 days, or until the optimum moisture content has been achieved.

THE REGION

The San Lorenzo subregion has strong conditions for coffee cultivation which allows growers to rely on coffee as a primary source of income

The wider Nariño region is located in South-West Colombia, including a pacific coastline and a border with Ecuador. Coffee is traditonally grown in the mountainous inland areas.
