Colombia Finca El Guamo Washed Microlot *TOP LOT*
About This Coffee
This is a washed microlot from producer Enuar Ordoñez's farm Finca El Guamo, a small farm near the community of La Chorrera in the Nariño region of southern Colombia.
THE PRODUCERS
Enuar Ordoñez is a young farmer who grew up around coffee production his whole life. He now lives on the farm with his wife and 2 sons. Finca El Guamo is a 2ha farm situated at 1,850masl, in the community of La Chorrera, San Pedro de Cartago, Nariño department. Enuar cultivates the varieties of Caturra, Castilla and Colombia.
THE PROCESS
This lot utilises a traditional washed process. Ripe cherries are harvested by hand, pulped, and then dry-fermented for 24-36 hours depending on climatic conditions. The coffee is then thoroughly washed to remove any excess mucilage, which has broken down during the fermentation process. After washing the coffee is dried on a concrete patio in the sun for 3-4 days, after which it is transferred to a parabolic solar drier for a further 10 days, or until the optimum moisture content has been achieved.
THE REGION
The Nariño region is located in South-West Colombia, and includes a pacific coastline and a border with Ecuador. Coffee is traditionally grown in the mountainous inland areas.
