CAFESCOR has a wet mill located in the community of Las Casitas and a dry mill in the community of Jimilile, both belonging to the municipality of Corquín, department of Copan. CAFESCOR founder and current president Joel López, belongs to the fourth generation of a family that has dedicated to this activity since 1865. Joel's great-grandfather, Mr. Pedro López, began by planting a small plot of Typica variety in the hamlet of Cuchilla del Águila in Las Casitas Village, Corquín, Copán. At the time, there was no strong global market for the coffee in the region, so they exchanged it for other foods with their neighbors. In 1920, the next generation, Ramón López, increased the cultivated area adding Bourbon to their varietal repertoire. In 1978, Guillermo López Lara - Joel's father - renewed the existing plantation and increased the area by expanding their selection once more to include more productive varieties such as Caturra and Catuaí. Today, Joel Lopez states that this young cooperative has a lot of optimism and is continue growing, and they hope to be recognized for its excellence in the coffee production. Also they are committed in making the producers and their families to have the opportunity to position their coffees as a unique product that complies with their quality policies and the international market standards.
